| North American proposal on regulating HFCs through Ozone TreatyOct. 05, 2009 - Building on a previous proposal tabled by the governments of Mauritius and Micronesia, the governments of the United States, Canada, and Mexico have submitted a joint North American proposal to phase down the use of HFCs under the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. Signaling their support for regulating HFCs through the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer rather than the new Post-Kyoto climate treaty to be negotiated in Copenhagen in December, the United States (U.S.), Canada and Mexico have submitted to the Ozone Secretariat of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) a joint North American proposal regarding the phase-down of such substances.
