Summary: The objective of this WP is to develop and to select the critical components compressor and heat exchangers using hydrocarbons, CO2 or ammonia as refrigerants. This development will be carried out in close collaboration with the SMEs manufacturing compressors and heat exchangers. For hydrocarbons the volume as to be minimised for safety and regulations aspects, and for CO2, the level of pressure is much higher (up to 150 bars) that for conventional refrigerants. Based on these considerations, several types of innovative heat exchangers will be studied: micro-channel heat exchangers, compact brazed plate heat exchangers, semi-welded or totally welded plate heat exchangers, spiral heat exchangers, plate-fin heat exchangers, enhanced and low-finned tubes.
