Duration: 36 months
Summary: Hydrocarbon is a very promising fluid for domestic and commercial heat pumps, but several aspects have to be solved before having a cost-effective, safe and reliable system. To reduce the risks, the mass of hydrocarbon has to be minimised, which implies new compact components (WP1) and new control system (WP2). In this WP, heat pumps using hydrocarbons will be developed and tested at lab-scale to validate their performance and to optimise the concepts. Afterwards, pilot units will manufacture and installed for field tests. The hydrocarbons to be used can be pure fluids (butane or propane) but also blends are envisioned as it can increase the energetic efficiency of the heat pump.
